Polish Constributions series was established as a need to address the new subject of archaeology of North and South America, which were previously beyond the scope of Polish archaeology. After 1982 the series was suspended and it was not until 2008 that it was reactivated. The need to resume its publication was a consequence of the intensification of research into pre-Columbian civilizations among the scholars from the Cracow archaeological centre. Between 2008 and 2012 four fascicles of the new series were issued as common publications of the Jagiellonian University - Institute of Archaeology and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences. Initially, as the title assumed, the journal published only Polish contributions to the subject of New World archaeology. Now, as it is one of the few European periodicals dealing with this particular subject, we decided to change its name and open it to authors from all over the world, thereby widening the scope of the journal.
